The Manager, Analytical Services will lead and oversee the analytical services team within our Energy Research & Innovation organization. This role is crucial for ensuring the delivery of high-quality analytical support to various research projects in the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry, extensive experience in analytical techniques, and proven leadership skills to drive the team’s performance and contribute to the company’s strategic goals.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of analytical chemists
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of analytical services to support research projects
- Ensure the accurate and timely analysis of samples, including crude oil, natural gas, and gas products, renewable feedstocks, and related intermediate and finished products
- Develop, validate, and implement analytical methods to meet project requirements and industry standards and novel applications
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, including ISO, ASTM, and other relevant guidelines
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure data integrity and reliability
- Oversee the efficient use of resources, including maintenance and calibration of analytical instruments and equipment
- Collaborate with senior management to align analytical services with the organization’s strategic goals
- Manage the department’s budget, including equipment purchases, supplies, and staffing needs
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and productivity
- Work closely with research scientists, engineers, and project managers to understand their analytical needs and provide tailored solutions
- Act as a technical liaison between the analytical services team and other departments within the organization
- Prepare and present analytical reports, data summaries, and technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of all analytical procedures, results, and methodologies
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in job posting country
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field
- 8 or more years of experience in an analytical chemistry role
- 3 or more years in a leadership or managerial position, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Intermediate proficiency working in Lab Information Management System(s) (LIMS)
- Advanced proficiency with analytical techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), infrared spectroscopy (IR), and other relevant methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree or PhD in Chemistry or related field
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of the chemical properties of petroleum, natural gas, renewable feedstocks and all related finished and intermediate products.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality management systems in the oil and gas industry.
- Proven leadership in safety initiatives
